Course Description
This course will investigate the ways in which artists have presented narratives in the public realm and the organizations that have made the presentation of those works central to their curatorial practices over the last 40 years. Focusing on recent works presented in New York’s public spaces by Creative Time, The Public Art Fund, the Percent for Art Program, Arts for Transit and other non-profits organizations, this course will look at what it meant to tell stories and open discourses that challenged or interrogated widely-held value systems, the events and the politics of their time. In addition to the specifics of current and other key works and projects, we will discuss the conditions that governed the development of public performance, temporary and permanent installations, the ways in which those works were influenced by public approval processes and governmental agencies, media coverage and community response. Each student’s final project will be an on-line proposal for an exhibition that conveys a “narrative“ developed in the context of this course, referencing other relevant works .

Rachel Maddow Show
A narrative that has grabbed my attention from watching the Rachel Maddow show was a case that is considered one of the biggest financial frauds in human history. This case was filed against president Trump.
Mr. Trump has two deputy finance chairmen in his organization, Michael Cohen. And Elliot Broidy. The second one was selling access to the presidents administration to a foreign buyer who has stayed incognito for the public. The idea was to sell an ability (self proclaimed) to make major department investigations go away. I believe the aim was for some individuals (buyers) to not be investigated by prosecutors. Broidy offered a multimillion dollar contract to oversee the buyers, and the term of the contract said if the justice department dropped the investigation within six months, Broidy and his wife will be paid 75 million dollars. Today this case is considered one of the largest financial frauds.
What strikes me the most is the result of this case: many people in the Trump’s circle were taking part in this multimillion contract (more than 500 million $US) as a way of money laundering. The result on the public may have lead to corruption, future money laundering and further criminal investigations.
Living along the Highline
ReplyDeleteIt is different from characteristics of a building and the resident. Some prefer more privacy by putting the blinds down. Some like to have their bedrooms or bathtubs facing the Highline.. Some buildings sealed the windows with bricks or have trees for coverage. Some residents display artwork on their windows.
