Course Description

This course will investigate the ways in which artists have presented narratives in the public realm and the organizations that have made the presentation of those works central to their curatorial practices over the last 40 years. Focusing on recent works presented in New York’s public spaces by Creative Time, The Public Art Fund, the Percent for Art Program, Arts for Transit and other non-profits organizations, this course will look at what it meant to tell stories and open discourses that challenged or interrogated widely-held value systems, the events and the politics of their time. In addition to the specifics of current and other key works and projects, we will discuss the conditions that governed the development of public performance, temporary and permanent installations, the ways in which those works were influenced by public approval processes and governmental agencies, media coverage and community response. Each student’s final project will be an on-line proposal for an exhibition that conveys a “narrative“ developed in the context of this course, referencing other relevant works .

 Project: 1

High Line:

The architectural change that was brought in by the creation of the Highline today, it has allowed there to be innovative with the construction of the modern buildings that would not have been allowed if the Highline was not a modern construction!

Project: 2

Project 3

There are not many art installations project through out soho but there the occasional murals, but I when i looked on the public art fund for nyc and then Soho, i noticed that the last public art fund project was in 2016 and it was a mural (as Seen to the right of the image).

or fabric that will block the picture taking so that other can't take pictures.

What are the demographics of the community in which the project will be sited?
The demographic of the area is mostly middle age shopper, andthis range can change as soho is an area which such a broad range of people it is hard to define the groups that are going. Through the area. But if I had to I would probably say the largest group going through soho is 20- 50 which medium to large disposable income.
Who is your audience?
The audience of my project are the local that go through the area shopping during their free times as well as the large number of the tourist that are always going to the city at all times of the year.
Are there groups that can become involved in the realization of your project?
One groups that may be able to help with this project in the Arts Service Intuitive of Western New York INC, as well as the Rauschenberg Foundation. The brand JustWater.
Are there organizations that are doing related work?
That I have been able to find I believe that there are not any other groups that area trying to complete project like this is in the area.
What is the civic process that a project like this requires?

What about permits?  What about governmental agencies?

What about social media?
I believe that my projectcould create a constant stream of the social media as it is a process that will expand over time as the people watch the change with in the climate of the construction.
What about documentation of the project?
Documentation of the project can be done daily or weekly as their will alwys be change going on to the subject of the art installation.
